Coach Don Gawreluk (pronounced Gow-er-luck) is the head coach of the Andover Huskies. Coach Gawreluk brings with him 10 years of experience as a high school assistant coach at Anoka, Champlin Park, Coon Rapids and St. Cloud Cathedral. As a player, he was an all-conference 3rd baseman at Coon Rapids H.S. and continued his playing career as a 1st baseman at St. Cloud State. Coach Gawreluk earned his teaching degree from St. Cloud State and later completed his Master's Degree through the College of St. Scholastica. Currently, he is a fifth grade teacher at Franklin Elementary in Anoka. Coach Gawreluk and his wife, Renee, reside in Anoka with their three batboys, Joe, Jake and Robbie. In 8 years at Andover High School, Coach Gawreluk has a 55-101 record.
Glenn Plohasz is our varsity assistant coach who works with the outfielders. He has a great eye for detail and is an excellent strategist during games. Coach Plohasz also has a future Husky ball player in his family, Sam, who will serve as our bat boy for the 2009 season. Coach Plohasz resides in Andover wife his wife and 3 children. He also volunteers as a coach in the Andover Baseball Association.
Coach Adam Dehnicke will serve as our third varsity assistant working with catchers and hitters. As a catcher for Coon Rapids H.S., Coach Dehnicke was a huge part of a 2nd place finish in the State Tournament. They happened to lose to a team that had a #1 draft pick by the last name of Mauer, first name of Joe. At the University of North Dakota, he helped his football team win a national championship. Not many people can say that they have been a part of teams that have experienced as much success as Coach Dehnicke. His ability to teach young people, strength as a catcher and enthusiasm for the game is a great fit with the program.
Jeff Satzinger will work with our younger pitchers during the season. Between Jeff and our new coach, Eric Grant, our rotations will be set, our routines taught and preparations made for a successful season on the mound in 2010. Jeff also coaches the Andover Legion team and led them to a nice season in 2009. He brings with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience and has been a great addition to the program.
Eric Grant is joining us as a pitching coach for the 2010 season. Coach Grant was a Coon Rapids High School graduate and JV coach there for the past 4 seasons. In the summer, Coach Grant still pitches for the Coon Rapids Redbirds, a local amateur baseball team formerly known as the Coon Rapids Mavericks (which was founded by Coach Don Gawreluk back in 1991.)
Jerry Sobieck comes to us with a wealth of baseball playing and coaching experience. Coach Sobieck was the head baseball coach at Anoka High School for a number of years and also coached the sophomore team there in earlier years. In the fall of 2009, Mr. Sobieck was reassigned to new teaching duties at Andover High School from Anoka High School and the students and baseball program are benefactors of that decision! Thank you, Anoka-Hennepin!!
Coach Brodeur is entering his third season with the Huskies rising from the 9A to the sophomore level. Coach Brodeur works as a teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin School District and also coaches the girls varsity basketball team at Andover. Coach Brodeur brings a lot of experience, knowledge, organizational skills and enthusiasm for working with young people.
Robb Belschner and Clint Whisler bring enthusiasm, knowledge and organization to their positions. Last year, Coach Belschner's 9A team won two tournaments and only lost 2 games all season. Coach Whisler did a good job helping to develop talent at the 9B level and enters his second year in the program.
